Headway

Headway is the distance or time interval between one vehicle and the next following it on the same route, measured front to front, and is the core scheduling variable transit operators set to balance passenger waiting time against operating cost. Rail, bus and metro systems each publish a target headway for their services, and shortening it is usually the fastest way to add capacity on a line already running at its practical train or bus length.
