A system of canals, locks and channels opened in 1959 that lets ocean-going ships travel from the Atlantic Ocean into the Great Lakes as far inland as Duluth, Minnesota, on Lake Superior. It is jointly operated by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation in Canada and the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation in the United States, marketed together as Highway H2O.
