IATA, a trade association of the world's airlines, founded in Havana, Cuba in 1945 as the successor to an earlier international air transport body founded in 1919. It sets technical, safety and commercial standards used across the airline industry, including the three letter airport and airline codes seen on tickets and baggage tags, and represents its member airlines to governments and regulators.
