United Parcel Service, known as UPS, was founded on August 28, 1907, in Seattle, Washington, as the American Messenger Company, starting with $100 in capital. It has grown into a multinational shipping, ground delivery and supply-chain logistics company and, by revenue, is the largest courier company in the world, serving more than 220 countries and territories with about 460,000 employees and roughly 119,000 delivery vehicles. In 2024 UPS reported about $91 billion in annual revenue; its Louisville, Kentucky hub can process up to 416,000 packages an hour and ranks among the world's busiest cargo airports. As of 2023 UPS ranked third in United States parcel volume, behind the United States Postal Service and Amazon, and competes directly with FedEx and other international carriers.
