Traditional and Pre-Industrial Watercraft

Small or traditionally built watercraft that predate, or stand apart from, industrial-era shipbuilding: dugout and outrigger canoes, the dhow and the Chinese junk among traditional sail and paddle craft found across many maritime cultures. Belongs here: canoes, dhows, junks and similar traditionally built vessels regardless of era, including where a traditional design remains in use today. Does not belong here: industrial-era cargo or passenger vessels built to Western commercial shipping conventions, even when sail-powered, such as the clipper, which is grouped under cargo and merchant vessels because its role and construction tradition are commercial rather than traditional.
