An early steam locomotive built by Robert Stephenson and Company, designed with input from George Stephenson. It won the Rainhill Trials in October 1829, a competition held to choose the motive power for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Its combination of a multi tube boiler and a blastpipe drawing the fire through the tubes became the basic template for steam locomotive design for the following century and a half.
