A British shipping company founded in 1840 to carry the transatlantic Royal Mail by steamship, which became the dominant Atlantic passenger carrier for over a century and long held the Blue Riband for the fastest crossing. It merged with its rival White Star in 1934 as Cunard-White Star and later moved into luxury cruising, surviving today under Carnival Corporation.
