A wide body commercial jet airliner manufactured by Boeing, recognizable by its distinctive upper deck hump. It entered scheduled service with Pan American World Airways on 22 January 1970, becoming the first widely used wide body aircraft, nicknamed the Jumbo Jet, and dramatically lowered the cost per seat of long haul air travel by carrying far more passengers per flight than earlier airliners.
